Agriculture sees influx of new firms
The number of new businesses that registered in the first eight months of the year increased 33% to 2,105 compared to the same period last year, according to data released yesterday by the Ministry of Commerce. Officials said that many of the registrations between January and August were for businesses operating in the agricultural sector… Kong Putheara, director of the ministry’s statistics department, said that the influx of registrations was the natural result of the return of local and foreign investors as the global economy slowly eases out of a recession… The number of registrations so far in 2011 is on track to come close to pre-crisis levels in 2007, when a total of 2,826 new businesses registered.
